Creating a “Right” Resume

Background: No hiring manager for a company has ever turned anyone down for failing to list their objective. Résumés have one goal: summarize relevant information to convince someone you’re worth further investigation. Employers receive stacks of résumé. When I listed a position for an intern at my last company, I received over 300 applications. A page requires 3–5 minutes to read, so to read all 300 would take 20 hours!

What employers do is skim first, then read promising ones in full. It’s not unusual to reject 90% of résumés within a few seconds of seeing them. Burying the relevant information is a great way to make sure you don’t make the cut.

Purpose: This assignment is designed to make sure that you are not losing opportunities by not properly showcasing your experience through different formats.
