Promotion/Marketing

Background: One of the main ways to sell your product and get it out there is through promotion, either directly with family and friends, or indirectly through social media and other partner stores. There are also many different forms promotion can take: display advertising - visual presentation of your product in areas close to where it is sold, sales promotion - giving samples of your product, handing it out at events or as prizes, or publicity - free marketing of your product through local newspapers, magazines, or radio channels. The medium you use for promotion should correlate with the one that will allow you to reach the majority of your target audience (Ex: radio, newspaper, direct face-to-face, social media posts). Regardless of which medium you choose for promotion, analyzing how other products are marketed and practicing it on your own product is crucial.

Steps:

  1. Think of 10-15 different products or services that you use.
  2. In teams, brainstorm a product you all use (or among your team, create a product or think of a service), decide on the form of promotion and medium through which you would market it, and create the content for your promotion.
  3. Decide on a product that your team would like to promote.
  4. Create an advertisement to market the product (e.g. video, poster, or infomercial).
  5. At the end of the advertisement, explain the marketing techniques your group used to make an effective promotion.
    1. What the presentation should cover:
      • Marketing strategy
      • Slogan
      • How it relates to customers
      • Target group you are catering to
      • The marketing mix (Product, Promotion, Place, and Promotion)
  6. To vote for the best ad and presentation, we shall set up a poll or text-in-to-vote system where members can vote for the best one.
