Our Story

SecondGen was created in early 2015, by current Allen High School senior Bobby Thakkar and some of his classmates. They noticed there wasn't an organization that encouraged students to pursue their passions and turn them into opportunities for careers, and after a first informal meeting, discovered there was a lot of interest. SecondGen was born. Expanding throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, a multifaceted director team was assembled and disassembled, creating the current team, consisting of high school junior Avik Jain, high school seniors Amy Jia, Emily Chen, Joshua Sturm, Ted Wu, and Wendy Ho. Throughout their journey, SecondGen has expanded across the U.S. and overseas, refining their mission throughout, finally arriving at what it is now: an entrepreneurship education based club system built by teens, for teens.

Through their programs, other startups have been created, like Fortify, an exercise tracking and scheduling app, and Peeyr, a peer tutoring program, and SecondGen has worked with companies Raytheon, HP Enterprises, Verizon, Google, Microsoft, Github to bring their unique services to the table for more teens. As a result of their efforts, SecondGen has seen astronomical growth and been able to move past bumps and blips along the way, like financial difficulties and inability to diversify. They reached out to sponsors, expanded further, and made their services more easily accessible, constantly growing and adapting to the situations thrown at them.

When asked why they feel SecondGen is so important to them, SecondGen’s executive team instantly knew why. They empower their peers to pursue their passions further than they think possible. Whenever someone linked to them succeeds, they feel validated and know that SecondGen is doing what it set out to do--change the world.
